The Saumarez Homestead is another iconic heritage site to visit, featuring a 30-room Edwardian mansion that was built in the late 1880s. Other heritage sites to explore include the Tenterfield Railway Museum, which houses many of the pre-World War II trains that once ran through this region, and the Glen Innes Courthouse Museum, which showcases the history and culture of the town.

NATIONAL PARKS
The Northern Tablelands region is dotted with national parks, each having its unique natural beauty. The New England National Park, which is just east of Armidale, is an excellent example of a subtropical rainforest. It's one of the few areas in Australia where you can see snow gums and Antarctic beech trees. Werrikimbe National Park, which is located northeast of Walcha, is another national park that is great for exploring nature on foot. The park is home to rare flora and fauna species, including the eastern pygmy possum, the red-legged pademelon, and various types of myrtle.

WATERFALLS
The Northern Tablelands region is also home to some of the most beautiful and unique waterfalls in the world. The Wollomombi Falls and Chandler Falls are among the most popular waterfalls in the New England region. Wollomombi Falls is one of the highest waterfalls in Australia, featuring a drop of about 220 meters. A few other notable waterfalls to visit include Apsley Falls, Ebor Falls, and Dangars Falls.

FOOD AND WINE
The Northern Tablelands region is known for its outstanding wine and food. World-class wine producers and vineyards such as Petersons Wines and Topper's Mountain are just a short drive away from Armidale. You can take a wine tour and taste the various wines produced here. The farmers' markets in Armidale, Tamworth, Glen Innes, and Inverell provide tourists with a chance to taste locally grown fresh produce. Some high-end restaurants such as St Kilda Cafe and Restaurant, Upstairs at Fred's, and Mosh Pit Bar and Grill dish out the best regional cuisines with the finest Australian Native Ingredients.

ADVENTURE SPORTS
The Northern Tablelands region is set up for several adventure sports, including hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and paragliding. Mount Yarrowyck Nature Reserve which is 30 minutes north of Armidale, offers excellent hiking trails with spectacular views over the Armidale valley. For fishing, the Ebor Falls is ideal for trout fishing, while Tilbuster Ponds Fishery, near Armidale, is popular for its stocked dam fishing. The Oxley Wild Rivers National Park is famous for its mountain bike trails. For a unique taste of adventure, you can go for paragliding. From the launch site near the South launch picnic area, Mount Borah offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
