Sir Zelman Cowen

Sir Zelman Cowen (1919-2011) was born in Melbourne, Victoria but spent much of his early life in the town of Armidale, located in the Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales. He served as the 19th Governor-General of Australia from 1977 to 1982.

Chris Watson

Chris Watson (1867-1941) was an Australian politician and the third Prime Minister of Australia. Although he was born in Chile, he grew up in Tamworth, which lies within the Northern Tablelands region.

Alice Jane Windeyer

Alice Jane Windeyer (1836-1926) was an Australian writer, poet, and suffragist. She was born in Walcha, a town in the Northern Tablelands area and became known for her socially progressive writings and advocacy for women's rights.

Ben Lexcen

Ben Lexcen (1936-1992), born as Robert Miller, was an Australian yachtsman and marine architect. He hailed from Uralla, a small town in the Northern Tablelands, and gained worldwide fame for designing and producing the winged keel used by Australia II to win the America's Cup in 1983.
